Jeff Ellis, Lead Instructor

Born and raised in the South Hills, Jeff Ellis is a veteran Class A PGA Professional who has been coaching all levels of golf for over 18 years. Jeff was the Head Golf Professional at South Hills Country Club for the past 5 years. He has extensive experience in golf operations, and his first job was at the original Cool Springs.

Jeff moved to Hilton Head, SC in 1997 to pursue his personal goal of becoming a Class A PGA Professional. He reached his goal in 2003. Jeff spent most of his career at Hilton Head’s Sea Pines Resort, where he worked alongside some of the best instructors on the east coast: Gary Gilchrist, Skip Malek, Rick Barry and Mike Adams, just to name a few. Jeff then earned the title Director of Adult Instruction at the Sea Pines Golf Academy and worked closely with the world-renowned International Junior Golf Academy and Tour.

Jeff has worked in all areas of the golf industry, but he has a passion for instruction and fitting golfers with the proper equipment. Jeff is a certified club fitter and improves students’ entire golf game by providing direct, meaningful feedback and uses computer / video technology combined with the appropriate teaching aids.

Jeff’s Teaching Philosophy: FUN & EFFECTIVE

As a PGA instructor, it is my responsibility to understand the different learning styles of all ages, genders and skill levels. I use technology along with simple, logical training aids to teach the physics of the swing in a way that is both fun and effective. Muscle memory is the key to a better swing, so my students and I build effective practice plans that fit their schedules and meet their goals.

I am very excited to be a part of the Cool Springs Instructional Team and look forward to helping you improve your game!

I am an avid golfer and practice a great deal at Cool Springs. My best rounds were mostly in the lower 90’s. Jeff Ellis gave me a lesson on July 15th. He gave me a simple solution to my downward swing. Since then I have shot 83 twice in succession, no rounds over 90. Jeff’s solutions work! His methods are extraordinarily effective. I would recommend Jeff to everyone. – Bill F.

I have been taking lessons with Jeff Ellis since April of this year. His instruction has paid off so well that I have shaved 6 strokes off my handicap in 4 months! He is great at applying concepts that are understandable to an average golfer. Because of this, I have been able to easily repeat what he teaches and apply it on the golf course. I look forward to continuing with Jeff as my ‘golf coach’ and decreasing my handicap even further. – Greer L.

I have been taking lessons from Dan Reilly at Cool Springs for the past three years, and have found that Dan is extremely dedicated to his students. Dan has drastically improved my golf game in only three short years. I also play competitive junior golf, and have won several local tournaments and contribute all of my success to his teaching and the superb practice facilities at Cool Springs. The Cool springs short game area is incredible. It offers a well maintained area including bunkers, and very fast greens. Cool Springs also has an excellent driving range with distance varied targets, so that you can practice a verity of shots. – Lindsey P.

It is not every day that you encounter such a great teaching golf professional who is also a truly great person. I have been taking lessons from Dan for 6 years and with his guidance I have successfully competed and won numerous junior/amateur golf tournaments and most recently verbally committed to a Major Division 1 University to continue my golf career.

Dan was most instrumental in making this happen for me. To me, there is no one more knowledgeable about technique and mechanics and his video analysis has enabled me to learn about the golf swing and has given me the ability to self-diagnose swing problems along with the confidence needed when competing in an event and in the heat of the battle. You won’t find a better youth instructor in the area. Dan connects well with all kids and is able to teach them all aspects of the game, including the mental side. I couldn’t thank him enough for all that he has done for me.

I first met John when he gave my son golf lessons a few years ago in preparation for the high school golf team tryouts. John immediately fixed my son’s tendency to slice his tee shots and restored his confidence in being able to perform under pressure.

I started to struggle with my own game. I wasn’t making solid contact and was losing distance. After a few lessons with John, I finally understood my swing and how to correct my slices. He gave me easy to understand cues and a series of drills to ingrain the proper feel of the swing. Now I’ve not only regained my distance but also I’m hitting the ball straighter because of better contact. I’d recommend John to anyone trying to improve their game. I thank him for helping me enjoy golf once again. – Dennis Quigley

When I began golf instruction with Joh Henk I was a complete beginner. Now I play in a women’s group weekly and am very competitive with the ladies who have played golf their whole lives. I’ve seen steady improvement because of the foundation I learned from John. As an instructor, he was patient and educational giving me multiple ways to understand and implement his lessons. John was committed to my progress as a player and made learning fun through games and drills. Although I still do not practice as much as I should, I am still improving my scores with the short game shots I learned from John this summer. – Susan Atkins
